Modified Car Insurance
You’ve modified your car and got your wheels the way you want them, but now you don’t know where to look for insurance. Don’t worry, read on.
If you want a good deal, give the companies a break. Be polite (they’re more likely to give you what you want if they like you) and – golden rule coming up – declare everything. If you have an accident in your pride and joy and you hadn’t mentioned that snazzy suspension modification, you’ll be found out. Then you’ll lose any payout that you might have collected had you been honest. Bummer.
You can limit your premium just by being smart, too. Things like investing in a good alarm and immobiliser (these companies know the good stuff from the cheap kit), being the only driver and even using a garage can make a hell of a difference. And yeah, those expensive alloys might be the dog’s wotsits, but if you want to avoid any nasty surprises, check the cost with your insurer first. You’d be surprised the number of people who don’t.
As with all insurance, it pays to shop around for modified car insurance. Make a list of companies and get a quote from each, that way you get a feel for the general market. Be sure to look at the specialist insurers though – they don’t panic at the slightest sniff of a spoiler. Happy shopping.
